Fenqihu (奮起湖) is a small town in the Alishan National Scenic Area, and this is also where the last stop of the Alishan Forest Railway Main Line is located. Most of the visitors will spend a few hours here for the old street, souvenir shopping and of course the delicious foods.
Ourselves have spent around 2 hours walking around the old street and hunting down the delicious and quality foods. The food list is not long, but these are the food that you must eat when you are in Fenqihu.

“料很多, 吃起来超爽”
One of the must-eat foods in Fenqihu is the railway lunch box; it is so famous that every visitor who come here will give it a try. This hearty packed lunch box consists of rice, vegetable, pork chop/chicken drumstick and braised egg. There are quite a number of shops selling railway lunch box in Fenqihu, but the mouth-watering aroma of the grilling pork chops wafted from the kitchen of 雅湖鐵路便當 helped us to decide which one to go for.

2. Glutinous Rice Cake . 草仔粿 (Caozaiguo)

“外皮很Q, 馅料很新鲜, 不会太过甜”
The second must-eat food is the Glutinous Rice Cake from the Grandma's Caozaiguo (阿嬤の草仔粿). This little shop is located very near to the old street of Fenqihu. You might miss it since it is tuck at the end of a roadway, but on the other hand, you might see many people walking in and out of the roadway; and very likely your curiosity will be triggered. Grandma's Caozaiguo are stuffed with fillings like yam, black sesame, red bean and etc. The overall taste of this homemade rice cake is simply delightful as it has a chewy texture and not overly sweet.

3. Baked Donuts . 烤甜甜圈

“形状稍微特别, 外脆内软, 超级好吃”
The next must-eat, also our best food in Fenqihu is the freshly baked donuts. The delicious aroma of baked donuts whirled in the air, you can smell it even before you see the donuts shop. Surprisingly, this baked donuts is one of the best donuts that I have ever eaten. The outer of this scrumptious donut is coated with a thin layer of sugar, making it very crispy and the inner has a soft and chewy texture. Definitely worth queuing even if the line is long.

4. Jelly . 爱玉(Aiyu)

“很滑很顺口, 不甜而建康”
Lastly, we want you to discover the hidden gem of Fenqihu, Aiyu Uncle's Home (愛玉伯ㄟ厝). It is normal that you have difficulty finding this quaint home cafe as it is hidden along a narrow alley in the old street, but please do not give up. The Aiyu Uncle's Home is selling delectable jelly dessert where you can take a seat in the balcony overlooking the town of Fenqihu or in the lush greenery garden. During our visit, we ordered their Signature Fresh Orange Jelly (招牌鮮桔愛玉) and Milk Tea Jelly Drink (愛玉凍奶) also our favourite. The jelly runs, but not too runny, and it tastes fresh, smooth and healthy. The Aiyu Uncle's Home is a place that you definitely must-visit and their jelly is something that you must-eat when you are in Fenqihu.
